KINGFISHER ABANDONFRIDAY
:18th July " SKINNY ALLEY"

jayshree singh: vocals, amyt datta: guitar, gyan singh: bass & vocals, jeffrey menezes: keyboards & vocals, jeffrey rikh: drums & vocals

Skinny Alley is one of India's premier bands and is probably the only band in the country today that plays at corporate events, college campuses, football stadiums, smoky pubs and 5 star nightclubs with equal flair and ease.
Skinny Alley has released two CDs of original music, Escape The Roar on the Virgin EMI label, and Songs From The Moony Boom on the Counter Culture Records label.

SATURDAY KINGFISHER BOHEMIA NIGHT : 19th July "CLOSET SNARE" ( South Africa)

inka kendrina: visual artist, kesivan dev naidoo : drums, sean patrick Ou’Tim : electric & stick bass , mark james buchanan: electric guitar, thomson lee polmer: trumpet, shane lee copper: machinist

Closet Snare is a project involving a select group of talented and experienced musicians along with Visual Artist grrrl.
The project had been conceptualized three years ago, and it is now that these much talked about ideas are able to become a musical reality.
Closet Snare is a platform where the musicians performing may produce music without any boundaries, genres or trends.
The band was created as a release for working musicians that are often faced with the tiring reality of being categorized in spite of their love and ability to create music that has no name.

For the purpose of some sort of commercial gain, it will however be necessary for a more descriptive explanation in terms of the sound created by Closet Snare.
There is a strong jazz influence alongside beats ranging from Break Beat and Swing to Hip-Hop.
There are moody slow tracks and tracks that display fast manic outbursts of free and improvised jazz.
There are elements of quirkiness and sometimes almost humorous musical ideas that trickle through. These ideas are due to a variety of interesting and really odd records sourced by the outstanding turntablist, the well known Cape Town based SIBOT.

gandhi's cookbook, with a sprinkling of sugar

KINGFISHER ABANDONFRIDAY:11th July " Gandhi's Cookbook"
Gandhi's Cookbook is a ska punk/hardcore punk band based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
They embrace DIY ethic, and believe that lyrics, ideology, & what one has to say are the most important parts of music. They believe in lyrical themes beyond the norm of mediocre watered-down bands and 'punx' who sing pointless songs about drinking beer, your 'crew' having your back, starting fights, or blind and ignorant racism/sexism/homophobia
" The name ’Gandhi’s Cookbook’ is a commentary on the laziness, ignorance, and greed of mankind - everyone included. Gandhi was obviously a really great man, and a figure for peace and diplomacy - many people would like to be seen as making a change in the world like he did, and they aspire to be a huge icon, but are too lazy to do anything that requires any work or determination. These people would much rather to have a nice handy little pocket sized book that tells them what to do to be a huge figure like him, which they can read at their leisure; basically a little cookbook"
They have recently released their debut EP titled 'In the Cesspool of Culture' - www.myspace.com/gandhiscookbook

SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER: " FIVE GRAINS OF SUGAR"

Five Grains of Sugar was originally written and directed in Hindi as Shakkar ke paanch Daane by Manav Kaul. The play has since been performed to great critical acclaim across the country. Shakkar ke
paanch daane was invited to perform at the Ranga Shankara Theatre Festival in 2005 where the theme of the festival was Indian Playwrights. Following this festival, Ranga Shankara, supported by the SRTT and Adishakti in Pondicherry initiated a Translation workshop where Indian Language plays were translated into English to make it more accessible to a wider audience. Shakkar ke paanch daane was translated into Five Grains of Sugar by Arshia Sattar during this workshop.

Synopsis:
Five Grains of Sugar recounts the personal journey of Rajkumar -a young man from small town India, where nothing spectacular ever happens. The play revolves around the choices he makes, especially when pushed into a corner. Rajkumar goes through his everyday life with idyllic charm and is surrounded by characters who are as irrepressible; A failed poet who insists on refining his taste, a mother with a strong taste for bloody and gory films, an old Gandhian who is still reliving his single meeting with Gandhiji, a dazzling hero from school and an invisible long distance friend. Rajkumar's is a universal journey filled with delightful events and speckled with life-changing experiences.
